Hxtal NYL-1 Epoxy is a crystal clear, non-yellowing, two-part epoxy resin system. Unlike other epoxies that were made for hobbyist, home and industrial uses, Hxtal was designed especially for restoration and conservation. It can be used on glass, porcelain, marble, wood, metal and much more. Hxtal can be colored, or filled to match porcelain.
Hxtal fully cures in approximately 5-7 days at room temperature (75 degrees Fahrenheit). Raising the temperature of the repaired article to 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 hours or so can cut the cure time to approx. 1-1/2 to 2 days. Raising the temperature of the article being repaired to 130-140 degrees Fahrenheit prior to applying Hxtal will reduce cure time. Raising the temperature of mixed Hxtal to 120-130 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes prior to use will decrease curing time to as short as 5 to 8 hours. When heating mixed Hxtal, stir the mixture throughout the heating process. Glass rods work well for this. It is best to heat the epoxy slowly and evenly.
Hxtal is most accurately measured by weight, not by volume. Precise measuring is best done using a digital or triple beam scale. Hxtal is mixed by weighing 3 parts of resin to 1 part of catalyst (3:1). Hxtal can be measured using syringes (Monoject Syringes (below) work great for this) though accuracy may not be as precise. Both the resin and catalyst of Hxtal weigh approximately the same, about 2 grams per cc or ml. Thus, you may be able to use Monoject Syringes to measure out appropriate amounts of resin and catalyst.
The unused mix can be kept for 4 to 5 days in the freezer. It is most important that the container be tightly closed. |
